<< A new way of environmental thinking, philosophy and ethics needs to be developed in all compartments of the world. We need to stop thinking in-the- box, including at UNESCO and including at the UN, including all agencies, programs and funds. The Water, Energy, and Food Security Nexus in the Arab Region

This book investigates the need for a more open and interdisci-plinary dialogue on the nexus of food, water and energy security in the Arab region. It argues that achieving sustainable economic development is irretrievably tied to the security of the water–energy–

food nexus, which is in turn essential for bringing about sustained peace. Further, it discusses various approaches to achieving these lofty objectives, and offers the following take-away messages (please have a look to the flyer):

>> UNESCO Green Academies are based on 5 pillars, including the establishment of Youth-Clubs. Their members will learn about biodiversity, climate and water issues, including rain water harvesting, grey water re-cycling, and production and use of clean energy. Environmental science (or similar titles) is routinely taught in schools worldwide using both theory and practical laboratory sessions. This approach is still characterized by a gap between school work and real life practical cases. With the Green Academies, students also experience how various measures are imple-mented in practice, and how they contribute to improving their living conditions. <<
